Now a days email, photos, social networks all depend on the cloud service. They are all quite comfortable and we place more and more information on them. But we should think of something: What if one day they will erase all your data for any reason? It is not impossible, in fact recently we saw as Hotmail and Gmail accidentally deleted emails from a number of email accounts.
So let’s look here how we can keep all the information stored in the cloud to avoid such situations.
Download all your email with a desktop manager

I’m sure the vast majority of users use webmail services like Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail or Gmail. In this case, the best solution to keep all your emails is to use an email desktop software. In this case we will use Thunderbird simply because it is cross-platform, although you can use to give you more rage.
Personally I would use IMAP to connect to the server, and synchronizing the mail status (read / unread folders) and theoretically (don’t know for sure) should be able to restore the emails to the remote server if it’s deleted. Anyway, here I put the data from POP3 and IMAP from the three major suppliers:
- Windows Live Mail: The server is pop3.live.com POP3, port 995. Can not access IMAP .
- Gmail: POP3: pop.gmail.com, port 995. IMAP: imap.gmail.com, port 993.
- Yahoo! Mail: POP3 is only available to Plus users pop.mail.yahoo.com, port 995. IMAP fit all, but requires a modified client. The server is imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993.
Once downloaded all emails you can make a backup Thunderbird profile in an external hard drive.
Tip: Thunderbird saves personal information such as messages, passwords and user preferences in a set of files called a “profile”, which is stored in a separate location from the Thunderbird program files. While it is possible to have multiple profiles, most users just use the single default. (See Using Multiple Profiles for more information.)
Keep your activity on Facebook and Twitter

We spend large part of our daily activities in social networks. If we need backup on such social networking websites. They can’t assist you, especially in case of Twitter and Facebook. To save the data there are several services that you can use as TweetScan or Tweetake. Both are very simple to use: connect with your Twitter login and begin to download. The downside is that you can’t backup any media stored on Twitpic, yFrog Twitvid.
Save data from Facebook is pretty simple. You must go to the settings of your own, and in the tab “Settings” click on “Download my information.” It’ll take you to a page where you explain what that file and since you can click the Download button, which will begin to gather all the information. When the file is ready, you will receive an email and verify your identity, you can save that file on your computer.

Download your photos from Flickr and Picasa

Both Flickr and Picasa Web are a good way to share our photos online. If for whatever reason you do not have copies of those photos on your computer, here we are going to show you how to download these two services .
For Flickr have a very simple and free multiplatform applications: Bulkr. Flickr authorize the application and we see a big button that says “Backup your photostream.” Press it, we choose the directory where you download the pictures and you’re done. We can only have to download the Picasa desktop software and import albums from Picasa Web from the File menu.
Export all your posts by Tumblr, Posterous, Blogger and WordPress

Although it is common to save the entries you write on a blog, here we are going to say how to do it if someone has a special attachment.
To Tumblr have online tool Tumble-log Backup Jammy. We just have to specify the URL of your Tumblr and specify what and how much you want to save and return a HTML page with all your posts. Same at Posterous, but not outsourcing. Just go to http://posterous.com/api/readposts?hostname=site_id file and return an XML with all your posts. All you have to do is keep it in a safe place.
Both Blogger and WordPress offer integrated tools for export (and import later) data blog. In Blogger export option is within the blog options in “Settings” tab. It is the first option that appears and then click on blog, download all your XML . In WordPress, it is on the left menu under the Tools group, and also download all the information in XML Both blogs also allow re-import the XML file .
That’s it for now. I think I covers most of the things we usually keep in the cloud. If you have any suggestions, speak in the comments.
