Social spam, the new enemy of social networks

Spam

There is no doubt that social networks have virtually conquered the vast majority of Internet users.

Social networks like Facebook and Twitter have already been many victims of indiscriminate attacks where the spam has been able to fill even the patience of many of its users. Therefore, the main aim to strengthen social networks to improve and increase their defenses against an enemy that has never stopped evolving and sophisticated users, and now adopts the label ‘social’ to become the new nightmare of social networks.

Gone are the traditional spam and junk mail. Great enemies of the internet are now adopting a new vulnerabilities using social networks to make us fall into the deception with all kinds of fraudulent messages that appear to be sent by our direct contacts. And this is primarily the main reason that the new spam, prefer to move through social networks, because through them, their messages can spread viral way through a chain of trusted sources, which also increases its adverse effects and the possibility that more people fall into their new, sophisticated traps.

According to experts, the practice of spam through social networks are becoming more common. From Facebook assure that at least about 4% of shared content is spam, and for 1.5% of all Twitter tweets in 2010 were fraudulent messages. However, from both social networks are alerted to the fact that the amount of spam detected is increasing at a frantic pace, and could become a problem of great impact and reach even to the future of social networks themselves. Therefore, equipment designed to fight these campaigns and attacks are being expanded and strengthened.

Not only professional spammers
However, even when you mention the term spam, usually attributed to the indiscriminate actions of professional spammers, it is also true that there are other forms of spam detected through such means and where their preculsores are simple without excessive resource users technological or malware through unorthodox techniques and procedures, seek their own advantage by generating all kinds of actions that could well fit into what is termed as the new ‘social spam’.

Now that information sharing is finally understood as more than a trend that could help many companies and brands to increase their visibility through these channels, again overlooking the long, narrow shadow of spam by those who have always resorted to such techniques. And it is also common to find users who resort to all tricks (messages in the chat, repeated, false labeling …) used indiscriminately and they end up becoming more than just irritable and angry for the rest of users.
